The Loyola Phoenix | Film
“Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery,” the third installment of Rian Johnson’s ensemble-led mystery series, is an intriguing riddle that fluxes between comedy and horror through its portrayal of the devout and the wicked.
“Wicked: For Good,” the much anticipated sequel to 2024’s “Wicked,” carried over the strong character work and musicality of the first film, but ultimately stayed true to its name, ending up good — not great.
The Loyola Phoenix | Columns
A24’s finest rom-com comes in the form of David Freyne’s “Eternity,” a tear-jerking film centered on love, second chances and ultimatums.
Cunnane and Trevor White sat down with The Phoenix ahead of the film’s Chicago Film Festival debut to talk about all things rom-com, the afterlife and eternity. Both questions and answers have been edited for clarity.
In a genre on life support, “Eternity,” — a film centered on love, death and the afterlife – resuscitates the art of the rom-com in a way that hasn’t been done since the ‘90s.
Co-written by Pat Cunnane and director David Freyne, the film follows the recently deceased Joan (Elizabeth Olsen) as she’s greeted in the afterlife by her long-time second husband Larry (Miles Teller) who passed a week prior and her “one that got away” war-hero first husband Luke (Callum Turner), both vying for Joan to spend an eternity with them.
